Yeah, just need to know for sure that kumquats exists and how I can know that.
Can anyone give me a logical argument that kumquats exist?
Assuming for the moment that you and I are in agreement about what, exactly, a kumquat is, that leaves only the question of whether any particular apparent manifestion of reality is really there. So let's take this from the top.
There is an objective agreement about kumquats. They are attributed certain qualities. You can personally experience those apparent qualities. That leaves only two options, really:
1) Your experiences and those are others are real.
2) Your experiences are false, and are somehow being manipulated or induced by some outside agency.
Given that we have no substantial evidence of some external kumquat conspiracy, and that a conspiratorial model is more complex that a non-conspiratorial one (the conspiracy requires not only all the complexities of our experiential world but also an extra, unpercieved world too), then Occam's razor would suggest that the simple model is true.
Thus kumquats exist because it requires a lot less explanation that kumquats NOT existing.
Reply:Kumquats do exist. have seen them w/ my own eyes and we have a tree in out neighbor's yard. It's a fruit also with a fuzzy exterior of which taste is so-so. It's a tropical fruit. My sis loves to eat them...me i'll pass just like lychee w/c tastes like onions.
Vidalia onions are good. though.
Reply:It's simple. "Kum" is from the Latin "***," meaning "with." And "quat" is equivalent to the Latin "qua," which means "what."
Therefore, a kumquat is a with-what – it is that which accompanies or adjoins.
No object exists in perfect isolation, so the "with-what" – the accompanying object as such – does and must exist.
Reply:I saw some kumquats last week.
therefore some kumquats exist.
Seeing is factive.
Existence is past/present/future.
Reply:I have a kunquat tree. It has kumquats on it. Kumquats are in season. You can eat a Kumquat, smell it, touch it, taste it. What is a Kunquat? It is that which you now seek to understand but as of yet haven't experienced. So if you eat one does that mean that kumquats exist or that one Kumquat existed? And if it existed do kumquats exist? I have a kumquat tree. It has kumquats on it. Kumquats are in season. You can eat a kumquat. Or not.
